Thrust ball bearings have a round ball design. Compared with roller bearings, ball bearings are less loaded, but the rotation speed of roller bearings is better than roller bearings. Therefore, in applications where fast rotational speeds are required, ball bearings are chosen. Roller bearings are divided into two types based on the number of their ball ranges:

Single row spherical roller bearings (unidirectional axial thrust ball bearings)
Scrubbing bearings have a structure consisting of an upper ring, a lower ring and a roller assembly – the spacer is centered. The upper ring is usually tightly coupled to the shaft and has a raised shaft shoulder to transmit axial force from the shaft through the bearing. The lower ring is usually tightly fitted to the bearing body and rests on the bearing shoulder to transmit axial force to the body.

The international designation for a bearing type consists of 5 digits beginning with the 2 digits 51 or 53, where the last 2 digits represent the bearing inner diameter.

Double row spherical roller bearings (bidirectional thrust ball bearings)

Double row scrubber bearings have 3 bearing rings in which the middle ring is fixed to the shaft, the other two are fitted with another base ring. To increase self-aligning (suffering from shaft eccentricity due to assembly errors) some scrubber bearings are manufactured with the undercarriage base mounted with another bearing ring.

A stamped steel cage is commonly used in smaller bearings and a solid machined copper cage for larger bearings.

Bearing designations consist of 5 digits starting with the 2 digits 52 or 54, where the last 2 digits represent the bearing inner diameter.
